song!

Song is always the best thing for me… I love to sing and dance… No doubt, this week lesson is so interesting and I love it much. As usual, we were asked to sit in our group and start to come out with a lesson plan using song as our set induction. After struggle several song and several poem, at last, we decided to use back our old lesson plan. My group chooses to use. The necklace and the song “Love Story” by Taylor Swift to teach the plot since the whole song is about a love story of adolescence. By the way, we really enjoy our presentation part on Thursday. This is like a MTV session where song and lyric are given and we can sing along with them. By the way, as we are using the same song with others people’s group, we doesn’t mean to do so. But, it come coincidentally, and because we presented on the last few groups, people like not satisfy with it. This makes me sad! Everything is just so coincident! Our activity, I feel is great. As students to watch the MV and after that, a word sheet is given and they were asked to sequence the event chronologically. Then, after they have finished doing the pre- reading, a while reading activity will be carried out. The same thing they need to do, the entire story pictures are provided and they are asked to match the storyline with the picture. The pictures are all colored and thanks to Yin Chean and Sapphire for helping me out in doing this when we were doing PPBK last few semester. It was awesome pictures. At last, I think our activity is related to our song and I think if this activity is carry out in class, students will love it.

jiwsaw reading

I did have a great time in today’s class. 6 October2009. Miss Dzeelfa gives us the marks of our course. It shocked me when I got to know that our project paper actually contain 40% of 100%. That is why it makes this paper make us so tired. We need to do so discussion with our lecturer and write a few drafts before we hand up our paper. Today I look at Martin Luther King, he is so noble. He speaks in front of 200, 000, 00 peoples telling them he has a dream. I have a dream… It was so great. I admire him. Then, we are assigned to go into our group, and distribute few pieces of papers and from the alphabet of the paper; we need to go into our expert group. By the way, this is a jigsaw reading and we were divided into our expert group and discuss about what is the content of the paper. After that, we were asked to join back our previous group as we need to tell the story in our paper to our group members chronologically one by one by our group members. Miss Dzeelfa has write some questions on the board to guide us to the flow of the story. It was a great lesson as I enjoyed it much. I love to listen to story and I love to tell story. In my opinion, I think this is a very good activity as students will be interested in it at the same time they have the chance to speak and to listen to their friends. Each and every one of them can share their opinion in the discussion and I think is fun. Besides that, it really encourage me to read and tell the story when it is my turn to speak. I love ‘The Ballot or the Bullet’. It is interesting. The white always make their false hope and I think is time for the black to stand…

Presentation- Speech

1st October 4, 2009. Today is our presentation day. We had assigned to do find our speech written by those politician and present in front of the class. No doubt, everyone has done a great job. But, in my opinion, due to some of the group didn’t do their work in power point, they just read from the text, I feel like this is a boring presentation. I don’t know what their talking about. Besides that, I admit that I seldom read about politic. I don’t know who is Indera Ghani. I feel like this is a great opportunity for me to look into the weakness of myself and start to read about more and more about politic. Although is boring, but, it is good for us to know that happen in this world. Thanks to the entire presenter that do. I think I do learn something.

Indiara Ghani

Just after my Raya break and I suppose should have my holiday nicely oversea. But then, I really didn’t aboard the plane since I had a terrible ill body when holidays arrive. This holiday, I spend my holiday nicely lying in my house, eating medicine, watch movie. That is a kind of enjoyment as well. Raya break over! Here come to our assignment again. Today, 29 September, we are working on the lesson of Speeches. American rhetoric speeches are art of persuasive through speaking and writing.
Speeches can be used as a teaching aid. Like what Miss Dzeefa say, the audio recording of political speech can be listen by students and through listening, the key message can also be the lesson of the class. Students also can use the text to highlight the speaker point of view and the speaker’s style effect the messages. These lessons can benefit the students. Students can expose to politic and history and at same time understand issues champion by the speaker. However, in my opinion, I think that speech is rather more difficult to teach than a usual text because speeches involve emotion and tone. Sometimes you may misunderstand the meaning of the text and miss interpret the meaning of the text. We are assigning to find the purpose, the main point, and the writer personal points of view in the passage. Luckily we get the speech: what educated woman can do by Indira Gandhi. I was assigned to do the main point of the speech.

Theater again

Today is our big day. After a small introduction of the parody by Miss Dzeelfa, all of our groups start to perform their parody. All of my classmates are so creative. They really have made a good attempt in designing a great story. I like the story act by Racheal’s group: Beauty and the Beast. It is nice and fun. Jolyne’s group also has made a good plot. They do it in a scary movie way. They fit in 3 tales to make it one. The Thumbelina from Simo’s group put in a lot of laughing stock in their story. Others group also make a very good performance. I really enjoy it. Sweet and nice.

Paroday

Parody usually uses in contemporary work. It works to create mock, comment or some others target by means of humorous. Today, we learn a few bedtime stories that had been parodies. Some of the stories were ridiculous and funny. But I do love the snow white version. The prince ended up open a spa with snow white and chased the seven dwarfs out from the house. Miss Dzeelfa assigns us to work in a group of 7, and come out with a parody, and act it out on next Tuesday. No doubt, our classmates are all actor and actress and they are all very excited when they receive the task. We all started to create story, come out with tales and change it to weird story line and ending, my group consists of 7 members, and we come out with the story, ‘The Ugly Duckling’ We change the story line a bit and turn the ugly duck to be cute and adorable duck, but ugly. So, there are 6 ducks in the pond where only 1 of it is ugly. He is alone on the other side of the pond because he can’t fit in to the group. The other 5 ducks are so bad and they keep back stepping the ugly one. There is one of the duck among the 5 which is kind and good refuse to listen to them and she tries to be friend with the ugly duck. The others 5 are jealous of her and started to talk bad about her too. This time, they come out a plan and want to break them off. They go to the ugly duck and talk bad about the little kind duck. The ungrateful duck after listen to their groundless complains, he ran away from the kind duck and leaves her alone in the other side of the pond. He himself joins the evil duck group. What an ungrateful duck. The End!!

Hurroy

Finished my position paper, and passed up to Miss Dzeelfa. Gosh, finally I had finished my assignment. From the starting of finding a story to provide a nice stand for the story, then my first draft, second draft, and third draft, finally, I can passed it up to my beloved lecturer. This is a tough journey and it’s like climbing a mountain. I struggle, I knock, I fall, but I keep going. At last, I reach the top and I success… I am standing on top of the mountain where I had passed up my paper. It makes me feel that life is great!!! Life is good and challenge. Oh well, assignment sometimes do make feel weird. I love them, but at the same time, I hate them. Good try Min HUi…

presentation

Miss Dzeelfa class for this week is about presentation of our position paper. Each and every one of us has to present our stand that we use for our work and adding in our supporting details to support our stand. As usual, everyone in our class have a better workout in our right brain as all come out with creative stand. In my opinion, i think they are artistic as they can come out something very surprising in their stand. I do enjoyed listening to people’s stand as they are so significant to me since if I get the topic, maybe I would write it in another way. As for myself, I choose the story “ The Storm” and my stand is ADULTERY IS A NATURAL PHENOMENON AND DOES NOT NECESSARY HAVE NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCE. But, my stand only can uses in the story as everyone knows that adultery cant happen in real life as it is a sin, a crime, a humiliation of a man or woman. Although when I present, I can see faces from the floor bitching about me, but, that is my opinion and I think its work as long as I give the supporting details. Strongly stand firm on my stand.

my position paper

What would you do if you have an affair with your next door “hot” mom, or handsome husband? What is you reaction when your adulterous act have been revealed by the society? My position paper entitled ‘The Storm’ by Kate Chopin. The story involves two families, which include Bobinot, Calixta, and Bibi, as well as Alcee, Clarisse, and their babies. At the beginning of the story, Calixta is alone at home waiting for her husband while doing household. Everything is calm and Calixta doesn’t even realize it is raining. However, when Alcee asks for a shelter in Calixta’s house, the rain suddenly beat upon the low. The setting of the story changes from outdoor to indoor as the storm increases quickly and thus drives Alcee into the house. This has also led to the readers’ anticipation that they will have an affair during the storm.

Kate Chopin uses her feminist view points to show that a woman speak with exceptional openness about human sexuality. The woman in the story, who has buried her emotional with house chore, tend to one night stand with her ex- boyfriend, but end up with no negative consequence. So in my opinion, I was thinking whether can make a stand that can support the adultery act. In a nut shell, I choose my title as adultery is a natural phenomenon and does not necessarily have negative consequence

13 August2008. diary

I love to read letter. I love to read diaries. It is short and straight to the point. I remember when I was in primary and secondary school, I write diaries. It is my treasure, my property. I write everything in my diary as it becomes my daily life. I do need to write it everyday as if there is something happen. (Include the one I admire, I hate) for me, that is the way to express myself and indeed, that the only way to make my self happy. In the letter that we read from John Keats to Fenny Brawne, we know that he is a sweet and lovely man. How I wish I am his fiancĂ©e, then I will get his entire lover letter and that will really drive me crazy. FALL in love with a man who is talented, a man who can write, will be the best thing ever has. WAHAHA (evil laugh)… However, The Andy Warhol Diaries, has the tone of cynical. He knows a lot of celebrity. I love the way he write his diary, straight and simply.

the prison's lesson

11th August 2008. Our lesson today is about autobiography. “Auto” mean I while “biography” means depict a character’s life. Autobiography mean a person to depict his life and character. It contains reflection and introspection and is in public audience. Our text for today is Robben Island: The Dark Year ( The Autobiography of Nelson Mandela)

Nelson Mandela is a prisoner and has been apartheid to a place which is called Robben Island. He tells us about his prison life and how he deals with all the obstacles he faces in the prison. Robben Island is a big island and like what he say, he has to move from one place to another is like walking to another country. For me, I think reading Autobiography is interesting and entertaining. It sometime provides some knowledge’s of certain places like Robben Island, and that will spice up our curiosity. This may be an interesting topic to teach in class. Miss Dzeelfa wants us to come out with a lesson plan for this autobiography for this story. This can be a very interesting lesson. Students will like to know what will happen next and what obstacles they face. We can ask students to find out what they kind of obstacles that they are facing and we can also ask them to arrange the events according to the story chronologically. Drawing comics’ strips and writing a poem can be students’ post- reading activities. Asides from that, students can figure out how to fight for their freedom, how to design a plan to escape from the island, are the activities that can be carried out in the post reading activities.

The minority group...

Last week was a memorable day in my life. Classes were cancelled and we were asked to RUN to safe our life due to the horrible H1N1 virus. Commuter station was flooded. Bus was like a tin of sardine fish and peoples were like refugees carrying big bags running out from the campus. Today 6th August, our tutorial session was about ethnic minority groups – the blacks and the red Indian. Talk about the term "minority group", it often occurs alongside a discourse of the rights which gained prominence in the 20th century. Peoples prone to have different treatment and discrimination may directly perceived by individual in a minority group. Langston Hughes was a black American poet or writer and he has a lot of great story of how his own people discriminate by the whites and he is the main character of our discussion today. But why do people discriminate others races? Their skin colour? Their attire, culture? Or their language?

It is an unfortunate situation when you are facing this circumstance. Most of the human population is drawn to its own race and language and cultural upbringing. It is in a human’s nature to be this way. Lets say you were raised solely by a white family, then you will respect all the white culture, but one day you moved to a different black neighborhood where no one knew you, you are in trouble because you don't have the same skin color, you would be considered offensive and appear to be mocking the black race. It would be the same if vice versa.

The same goes to Malaysia. Malaysia is a multicultural country where peoples hand in hand and stay together harmonically. Yes, we are lucky to be in Malaysia. However, when you come to a class, you will see people sitting in different group in their own ethnic. That is the culture of human being. White discriminate the black and the black will discriminate the white. Even the Red Indian has been discriminate by the white or the black. I do think that these are driven by the ancestor. What they did serve a very enormous impact for us. Get rid of the old history that happen in the pass, I think they cant respect each others as it will still be the same after hundred years.

The next visit to The Zoo on 23rd July

23rd July, 2009. We have a very short period today as we continue our previous discussion. On 21st, July, we were required to think of the supporting detail for the thesis statement “ Jerry’s death signifies the birth of his pride and dignity.” Miss Dzeelfa wants us to write out our group supporting details on the white board and we discuss it after every group had written on the board. Mostly of my classmate think that Jerry’s death is meaningless, as I think that Jerry itself is meaningless. This is because he don’t appreciate his life. He tries to kill himself, but he lack of the courage to kill himself by piecing a knife into his heart to die immediately, instead of that, he plans to tell the zoo story and end up he make another innocent person- Peter to bear the pain and the guilt of killing him. He is selfish, silly and coward. He fails everything in life. I am quite look down upon him. After we have finish discussing the details of others group, Miss Dzeelfa tell us that this is how we should write an position paper and this activity really help us a lot in guarding us to write an position paper.

21 July in The Zoo

Today, 21st July2009, we do a story entitle The Zoo by Edward Albee. As we know from his name, he is a man who writes theater of the absurd. This story is long but yet, the vocabulary is simple and easy to understand the sentences. This story contains a lot of intended meaning where it shows a bit difficult for us. When I read the first few pages, I really have the curiosity to know what will happen next. Jerry the character mentions about the zoo and I think it is his plan that he wants to make Peter the man who he meet in the park who has everything in his life to feel guilty. This is all reveal in the last two pages where he wants Peter to kill him. Jerry is a psychological man who thinks that he is the one who able to dominate and manipulate others. He tries to kill himself because he has no work, no education, no wife and living in a very miserable life. He wants to fight for the bench because he thinks that it is his pride and dignity. The zoo is a story to significant life and Jerry is the one who is fails everything in life. frankly, i love this story.

2nd Week...

Since I was absents last week, I had a bunch of homework waiting for me this week. Monday was a happy day because we only need to attend a lecture and a lab class. After that, it was a night mare for my Tuesday. We need to attend classes from 10 am to 6 pm. The whole morning was so mind-numbing. Lecturer’s voice was making me unenergetic. I am sleepy. But, luckily, when it comes to class from 4 to 6, it makes me awake. Miss Dzeelfa was given us some stories to read. Since we have read the story the day before, she asked my classmate to read out loud one by one. I think this is a good idea because it did make us awake to concentrate to avoid being the next victim. We read Androcles, Daedalus and Icarus and Ovid metamorphosis.

These three was great story especially Pyramus and Thisbe. It is more like Romeo and Juliet as It is my favorite story. Actually, Romance is always my first choice. I love to see their endearment where love will always surrounded between them. LOVE ~##~ after that, Miss Dzeelfa gives us a very interesting activities. We have been divided into groups of six; first four groups had to come out with a dialogue from Pyramus and Thisbe while the others have to come out with the summary from Deadalus and Icarus. Luckily, we are the fifth group. We called ourselves China Five, since Michael Jackson called themselves Jackson five. We imitated them. This is a very enjoyable activity where we can see every group presenting their production. It is so fascinating and funny. Our group makes a funny version of it. We speak in a ‘ROJAK’ language and translated it in English. It sounds funny. Other groups also make a well production. Indeed, great job.

Thursday class was a nice class as well. We got the chance to read an obscene story which entitled Sara and the weeding. It is a story about a woman who scarified her marriage to take care her family but, ended up with her plump body and incomplete life. We were asked to write a stand for the story and in the end, it did come out a lot of different point of view. Some say marriage guarantee happiness in woman life while some say not every man is bad in this world. For me, I think that woman can be desperate without love yet tough without a man.
